AMC is showing The Quiet Man and High Noon tonight! W00t!

I forgot to set my essid on my laptop and ended up associating with some neighbor's wireless which has still got the default settings. I was just getting good and pissed off about how slow my net conx was tonight when I realized what had happened... :-P

On a happier note, from walkerton comes a quiz that I assume has no unfavorable results, so go wild:

What kind of God are you?
Name
DOB
Favourite Color
You earthly time was spent Supplanting kingdoms, punishing tyrants and levelling the empires of the wicked with the breath of your nostrils
Your throne is A humble respte overlooking the rolling hills of Elysia
You wear A humble tunic and robes, belying your inestimable supernatural powers just waiting to shatter the woes of Creation
Your Godly superpower is Bolts of crackling lightning from your fingertips and total invincibility

Putting a space between Noisy and Parker actually yielded the godly superpower I would be more likely to lust after.

That song has great style.

Burned all my notebooks,
what good are notebooks?
they won't help me survive.
My chest is aching,
burns like a furnace,
The burning keeps me alive.

Ha, that'll never happen around here. I think most of my neighbors are still in the technological Stone Age, or about 1999, which is the same thing.

Fortunately my laptop saves all my wireless settings because it would be a total bitch to re-enter that freakin' WEP key each time I connected.

Never say never, I guess... I'm in borderline rural NH. There's even an unsecured access point somewhere near my mom's house in CT. Unfortunately, they didn't have an always-up net conx or I might have gone with it, since she just has dialup and one phone line.

Fortunately my laptop saves all my wireless settings

I usu keep mine saved except when I'm in the mood to experiment with some different setup (currently EAP authentication, which is still tricky in Linux... I had put it on hold until I could use my particular wireless device without patching every time I upgraded). At those times I come up with an easy enough way to load various settings, but it still requires me to manually load it after a reboot. I had just forgotten that I had rebooted that morning. ;-) If I get EAP going (and authenticating off of a RADIUS server) I'll probably stop playing with the config.

Of course, if anyone else at the house ever starts using the wireless, too, I can forget experimenting with it, as well. ;-)

I ended up saving High Noon for this weekend, so I could see it with my daughter. She got interested in it but it would have kept her up too late if we had watched it that night. On top of that AMC has some bracingly huge commercial breaks... it will be nice to be able to skip them. ;-)

Seeing the young Jeremy Brett in My Fair Lady the other day brought Sherlock Holmes to mind. I think his Holmes is the best adaptation I've seen, especially in the first series. When I saw the Rathbone/Bruce stuff years ago it was always a mystery to me why Holmes and Watson hung out together. After reading the stories, the nature of the friendship was a lot clearer, and I think it is portrayed well in the Brett adaptation.

Your god powers make things very convenient since we should be able to split the workload nicely.

hehe, yes, indeed on the division of labor thing. very important in sharing deity-ness.

funny you say this of jeremy brett. Blue says the same thing of him. however...i do not know the 2 actors' names, but there are two watsons in those movies which i have seen--one a more slender, dapper looking man, and the other a bit shorter and...well...more what i pictured watson to look like in reading the novels years ago.

me: "he looks more like a watson than that other watson."

Blue: "what does a watson look like?"

me: "THAT guy!"

Blue: quizzical look

me: "well, you asked a stupid question..."

Yeah, he seemed like he had a bit more personality... more lived in? ;-) It would take kind of a tolerant, personable-but-not-overly-social guy to put up with Holmes when he is being a PitA, and the one actor produced a Watson that seemed more likely to have that capacity.

And, yeah, that was pretty much the straight-man question in that comedy routine. ;-)
